WSU Everett MESA Program Engages Legislators in Olympia to Strengthen Support for STEM Education

The WSU Everett MESA Program recently met with Sen. John Lovick, Rep. April Berg, and Rep. Mary Fosse in Olympia as part of ongoing efforts to enhance visibility and legislative support for STEM education. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss the impact of Washington MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement) and advocate for continued investment in programs that empower students to pursue careers in STEM fields.

During the visit, WSU Everett and Everett Community College MESA directors highlighted the program’s role in strengthening the STEM pipeline, improving student retention, and fostering career opportunities through mentorship, hands-on learning, and industry engagement. The discussions emphasized the importance of MESA’s collaborative efforts with community colleges, the academic achievements of its students, and the program’s success in preparing students for high-demand STEM careers.

WSU Everett’s MESA Program continues to make significant strides, with recent highlights including an 88% student retention rate, strong academic performances, participation in national STEM conferences, industry-recognized career placements, and impactful community events. The program was also recognized as a finalist for the Innovative New Program Award by the Latinx/a/o Knowledge Community within NASPA, reinforcing its commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in STEM.
