YouTube Live: Reading by Kelly Yang, Young Adult and Middle-Grade Author

To participate in this live, synchronous event, join this livestream using YouTube Live. Kelly Yang is the New York Times bestselling author of Front DeskParachutes, and Three Keys—Front Desk Sequel. Her debut novel Front Desk is about a ten-year-old Chinese American immigrant girl who manages the front desk of a motel while her parents clean the rooms. It was awarded the 2019 Asian Pacific American Award for Literature, the Parents’ Choice Gold Medal, is the 2019 Global Read Aloud book, and has earned numerous other honors, including being names as a “Best Book of the Year” by Amazon, the Washington Post, Kirkus, NPR, Publisher’s Weekly, and the School Library Journal. Yang immigrated to the U.S. at the age of six and grew up in Southern California, where she and her parents worked in various motels. She started college at UC Berkeley at age 13 and went on to Harvard Law School at age 17. After law school, Yang took a professional turn to pursue her passion of writing and teaching children writing. She is the founder of The Kelly Yang Project, a leading wiring and debating program for kids in Asia. As a writing teacher, Kelly has helped thousands of children find their voice and become better writers and more powerful speakers. Yang’s reading is hosted by the WSU Visiting Writers Series.
