Program Details

Washington State University’s Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership is now offered at WSU Everett!  This dynamic, statewide program is tailor-made for educator-leaders committed to shaping the future of education across all levels.

Program Delivery & Time to Completion

  • The Ed.D. program, designed for working professionals, offers a part-time schedule with classes accessible via Zoom.
  • Weekly classes are held on weekday evenings from 5:45 PM to 8:30 PM. During the fall and summer sessions, there is typically one mandatory in-person weekend on a WSU campus. The program also includes two summer hybrid (synchronous/asynchronous) evening courses offered in both the first and second year of the program.
  • Students take two courses each semester and complete the coursework in 2.5 years. The degree can be finished in four years with continuous progress, although most students complete it in five. The maximum allowed time is 10 years.

Program Requirements & Tuition

  • The program requires 42 graded credits, including a minimum of five research courses, two educational foundations courses, and five educational leadership courses.
  • Additionally, 30 ungraded 800-level credits are needed to complete key milestones: the preliminary exam, dissertation proposal, and dissertation defense.
  • Up to 12 credits of graduate-level courses from a similar program at an accredited institution, completed within three years prior to admission, may be transferable.
  • Tuition is $675 per credit for Washington residents for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Alignment with Superintendent Certification Program

  • Students have the option to enroll concurrently in the Superintendent Certificate program. Coursework from the certification program may count towards Ed.D. requirements for students admitted to both programs.
  • Enrollment in the Superintendent certificate program requires a separate application and admission process. For more information, contact Jim Kowalkowski at jkowalkowski@wsu.edu.
