Student Speaker Application
Student speaker applications are being accepted through March 25, 2022, for the Spring 2022 Commencement Ceremony on May 14, 2022. The individual selected will deliver a speech no longer than four minutes at the ceremony. Once selected, the student will work with a mentor to perfect and practice their speech.
Qualifications:
- Complete and submit the application form by March 25th, 2022.
- Candidates must be a 2022 graduating senior (spring, summer or fall).
Selection Process:
- Review of applications will start March 28th, 2022.
- Once applications have been reviewed by the selection committee, students will be notified through their WSU email on what to do next.
Here are some guidelines:
- Tell a story: talk about personal success, such as struggles ending in triumph or momentous decisions and life-changing experiences that led you to where you are today.
- Be flexible, open-minded and available: the selected speech will likely go through revisions for final polish, and we’ll take the time to coach the winner on being an effective public speaker.
- Be authentic: be yourself, sincere and organized!
