SUMMARY:Situational Awareness: “Maverick” in the Workplace
DESCRIPTION:Many factors impact productivity. It could be argued that sound decision-making is the most important factor. Understanding the situation in which decisions are made can improve productivity. Being situationally aware can also make you a better employee and teammate. Todd will describe his experience with situational awareness (SA) in the United States Navy and how the concept of SA can improve employee productivity and team skills in the workplace.  \n\n\n\nG. Todd Vanek \n\n\n\nTodd is the Director of the Engineering and Technology Management (ETM) online master’s degree program. He oversees program operations and teaches management and leadership. He served in the United States Navy in the 90’s as an Air Intercept Controller (think “Top Gun”) and as a Total Quality Leadership Coordinator for a training and evaluation command. He has been involved in some form of education management for over 30 years. He earned his PhD in Educational Psychology at WSU in 2004.

DESCRIPTION:C\n\n\n\nDon is a 1987 Graduate of Washington State University (WSU) with a Major in Business Administration and Minor in Marketing.  He has served on the WSU Carson College of Business National Board of Advisors for 10 years\, chairing the Marketing Advisory Board and served as the Chair of the entire National Board of Advisors. \n\n\n\nDon worked for the Xerox Corporation for 8 years and joined the Microsoft Corporation 18 years ago.  He is currently a Director or Sales\, leading a team that provides solutions for Native American Tribal Government\, Gaming and Alaska Native organizations encompassing the entire US market. \n\n\n\nDon is passionate about technology and helping his Native American clients discover solutions to help tribal government and gaming organizations gain efficiencies and better serve their constituents. \n\n\n\nDon and his wife of 30 years\, Julie\, reside in Bellevue\, WA.  Julie is also a graduate of WSU and is a Corporate Pilot flying out of Boeing Field in Seattle.
